The Sims 2 follows the same ground rules as the original: you must guide simulated people called sims through their daily lives, helping them make decisions that will affect their careers, emotional well-being, and relationships. Version 2 adds the concept of Aspirations—your sims now come with dreams and goals that you must try to fulfil. The game also has a genetics component that lets sims pass their own traits down to their kids. You can even create custom sims that look like you. (Macworld)

DL 1-2: Parts of a zipped archive of the Install disc image for the PPC version 1.0 (2920), released 2005.

DL 3: Contains a cracked replacement copy of the game application version 1.0 (2920)

DL 4: Contains an updater from v. 1.0 to 1.0 Rev. F (45591) that adds Universal Binary support, released 2007.

DL 5-6: Parts of a zipped archive of the Install disc image for the Universal Binary version 1.0 Rev. F (45591), released 2007

DL 7: Contains a crack patch for v. 1.0 Rev. F (45591). There are other crack patches for intermediate versions of The Sims 2, but I have not put them here as they will be of no use.

To unpack the parts of a zip archive, place the parts of the archive together in the one folder and then drag the 0.001 file to The Unarchiver. This will join the parts and unzip the archive.

There are six expansion packs for the Macintosh. These should be installed in order to be sure that the game folder is up to date at each install. Also do this to ensure that the cracks will work.

There are also three stuff packs for the Macintosh (Family Fun, Glamour Life, Happy Holiday) that add new items for your Sims to use. Stuff packs may not be compatible with certain cracks for the earliest expansions, but this won't be an issue if you install the complete set to start with. In that case I suggest installing the stuff packs last.

It is best to install the game folder in the main Applications folder. It does not seem to matter in Tiger, but if you are using Leopard then the early expansion packs may not always install where they should if you place the game folder elsewhere.

You only need to install the base Sims 2 game and the expansion packs without any updates or applying any cracks, except for the update (if any) and crack of the last expansion pack you decide to install.

A complete set of updates is available from the The Sims 2 Updates page. However, only use the updates supplied on this game page and on the pages for the expansions if you want the cracks provided to work.

Notes about The Sims 2 installers (base game and expansions):

1) If an installer aborts with an 'internal error', then drag the installer application to your hard drive and run it from there.

2) If an installer cannot run because it is a PPC application. and you are running in Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion), then Control-click the Installer, select 'Show Package Contents', navigate to Contents/Resources. Inside the Resources folder is a pkg file. Double-click the pkg file to execute it.

Notes about the crack patches (base game and expansions):

1) If you have trouble applying a crack patch, try using Pseudo to run the patch as System Administrator if your system is no higher than Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard + Rosetta). If you are running in Mac OS X 10.7, then use LaunchAsRoot instead of Pseudo.

2) Each crack patch archive contains two versions of the patch. The one in the dmg disk image file is for use of systems no higher than Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger). The other, in a folder called 'For Leopard', is for use if you are running on Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and above, as the name suggests.

The complete set, The Sims 2: Super Collection (base game, expansions, stuff packs), requiring Mac OS X 10.12.6 or later, and a 64-bit processor, can be purchased from the Mac App Store.
